Breast reduction and breast lift (Mastopexy)

The operation

A breast reduction is meticulously planned by measuring the amount of reduction and outlining it on the skin. During the operation, breast tissue is removed to give the breast the desired shape, volume and firmness. Yet, scars are inevitable: one around the nipple-areola-complex, one down to the inframammary fold and one horizontal scar within the inframammary fold. The scar in the inframammary fold is an exception and results only after large resections. Regardless of the operative technique, it is not always possible to retain the ability to nurse.

For a breast lift, the same operative technique is applied, but only skin and no breast tissue is resected; the volume of the breast remains the
